This project investigates the nature of collections and humans’ fascination with creating and using masks. Over 70 people participated in it. The series is composed of 165 portraits of people wearing masks that belong to them. The documentation and registry include several audio and text interviews with several of the participants.

For this project I raised questions and contemplated on what masks represent in our society. The aim of this investigation was not to criticize the literal or figurative use of masks but to understand and celebrate the reasons we do. Personally I think that in order to communicate effectively between humans, it is indispensable to create “shortcuts”- whether they are social roles or certain behaviors within a culture, social circles, work spheres, families – and in this manner wear the “masks” we’ve inherited from the humans who “created” them.
